Winter Starbucks drink: Goma Goma Goma Latte & Frappuccino
Just when we thought Starbucks couldn’t get any more creative with their drinks, they have introduced Goma Goma Goma, a limited-edition latte and frappuccino, as part of their “JAPAN WONDER PROJECT” to promote Japanese culture through food and beverages.
Retailing at 580 yen, the Goma Goma Goma frappuccino (goma meaning “sesame” in English) is made to represent calligraphy. The drink itself is white mocha but is mixed with black sesame sauce, creating the appearance of calligraphy on paper. A drizzle of honey and sesame cookie crumbles top off the frappuccino, lending an additional layer to the already goma-loaded beverage. The taste? Much like last season’s Halloween Witch and Halloween Princess, Goma Goma Goma is incredibly sweet. Yet, while the initial rush of sweetness is quite overwhelming, the slightly bitter sesame crumbles balance this out, making the drink enjoyable and possible to finish.
Overall, Goma Goma Goma is a hit; the combination of Western frappuccinos and Japanese goma is truly different than anything Starbucks has done before and leaves us anticipating what unique beverages they will come up with next.
