Spirit Week
Despite the difficulty of having to host a Spirit Week, the Boosters pulled through and gave us a week filled with icons, leggings, and memes.
The first day of Spirit Week was International Women’s Day, and students came to school dressed up as various female role models, from Amelia Earhart to Marie Taglioni. While fewer people came to school with complete costumes, the assortment of dresses and skirts that came with International Women’s Day reminded us that you don’t need to wear a suit to be inspirational. Many students found it challenging to put together an outfit for the second day, Athlete’s Day, as they were not allowed to wear sweatpants, sweatshirts, and Nike gear. However, that didn’t mean that the day wasn’t comfortable or spirited – students could abandon their uniforms for their sports attire and still be spirited by celebrating our sports teams. Twin Day resulted in many innovative outfits and once again allowed students to wear something other than the generic white shirt. However, the goal of connecting students from different grades was more difficult – outfit ideas for Twin Day mostly resulted in online, business-like discussions, rather than “let’s get to know each other” meetings. Still, the outfits for the day were creative and smart, and definitely scored some spirit points. However, it was Meme Day that stood out from the other days – not only was there a huge turnout and enthusiasm, but many also went out of their way to add props to their outfits, bringing them to each class for maximum authenticity. Costumes ranged from the famous “confused lady” meme to the “Arthur’s fist” meme. Meme Day brought about a sense of lightheartedness that is often needed during the stressful weeks of school. While Spirit Week had its ups and downs, it undoubtedly brought in new and creative ideas and gave the school that extra boost of spirit!
