Surprising reactions to the 7/8 dance
The annual 7th and 8th grade dance was held in the ISSH AV room on January 16. Students from St. Mary’s and Seisen, as well as from Sapporo Sacred Heart, came to ISSH to take part in the dance.
The ISSH 8th graders interviewed some students to gather their opinions on the dance. When the Sapporo girls were asked if they have dances at their schools, and they were stunned and replied ‘no.’ This is due to the fact that Sapporo Seishin has strict regulations about boys, and lacks any nearby boys’ schools. The students also said that they would not like to have dances at their school because “dances are too crazy” and they “give [the Sapporo Seishin students] headaches.”
Nevertheless, the Sapporo girls said that the ISSH dance was enjoyable and “a very interesting experience.” If hosted at Sapporo Seishin, however, students said they would choose a more diverse range of music, including Japanese songs.
On the other hand, most students from 7th grade said that they didn’t enjoy the dance since the 8th graders “took over the dance.” On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, most 7th grade students ranked the dance as 4 or 5. Students said that they were sitting in the corner of the room eating “free food.” This was a great surprise because it was the 7th graders’ first dance, yet they said it was boring. In spite of the low rankings, a lot students complimented about the song choices.
Meanwhile, the grade 8 students said that the dance was amazing, and was better than expected. On a scale of 1 to 10 and 10 being the best, most 8th grade students rated the dance from 6 to 10. Most people said that they enjoyed the dancing queen of 8th grade, Sahana, going crazy from the beginning of the dance until it was time to clean up.
Overall, most people enjoyed the dance. A lot of people liked the different songs, the dancing, and the free food. It was a great experience, especially for new people who had never been to dances.
