Ball for a change
December 7, 2015
On Thursday, December 10 at 5:30 p.m. in the Gym, the Symbas Basketball team and Seisen Phoenix are holding Ball For a Change, a fundraiser game. All of the proceeds will go to Sport for Smile.
Since December 10 is the Human Rights Day, the aim for this fundraiser is to alert others about those who are battling disability and suffering from poverty. The basketball team will place a donation box at the entrance of the gym, asking people to bet on which team will get the most rebounds. A photo booth and carnival games during the halftime will involve the spectators and raise more funds.
This is the first time the Symbas Basketball team is hosting a fundraiser. They were influenced by Dig for a Cure, hosted by the Symbas Volleyball team.
Miya (12), the Varsity Basketball captain said, “Not many people see that sports may be the key to peace or to breaking down barriers in society. Therefore, I feel that this game will make people realise that sports can be used joyfully as a tool to help others.”
The Junior Varsity game will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the Varsity Basketball game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Please support the Symbas Basketball team on Human Rights Day.
