Sahana (8), Janice  (7), Michelle (8), Chihiro (6), Risa (6), and Maria (7) were the 6 GIN club students who went to Singapore from March 11 through 15, with hopes and ambitions to share some ideas with other international schools from different countries.

They delivered a 30-minute presentation on SEEDS Nepal to teach students from schools all over Asia about issues going on in Nepal. The main global issue they talked about was education, and Nepali children not having enough light to study and work at night.

They also shared the idea of a Math-a-thon for raising money. The GIN students from ISSH explained how the school raised money through a Math-a-thon to buy Luci Lights for the students in Nepal. However, the GIN presenters  encouraged their audience to consider a Math-a-thon as a fundraising idea. One student that was listening to the presentation said that she was going to take this idea back to her school, and start a Math-a-thon. She said that a Math-a-thon was likely to be accepted by her teachers who were reluctant to organize activities that were not academic.

The six students who went to Singapore also brought back a lot of new information they learnt from the activities they joined, like cleaning up a coastal beach area and packing food at a food bank. They also learned a lot of information from the inspirational speeches and presentations they heard.  “I was watching the Beep Beep Books presentation, and I really liked it because it was very entertaining. I learnt a lot of information about what Beep Beep Books was, and I think we can use that idea for our future GIN club plans,” said Janice (7).

Over lunch, conference participants discussed what they were learning from the conference.
