Joy to the world!
Sacred Heart annual Christmas Carol Concert is a few measures away
November 27, 2015
To start the celebrations of the holiday season, the talented musicians of Sacred Heart, with the help of their directors Mrs. Ofstedal and Mr. Nicholson, are putting together the annual Christmas Carols Concert held on Friday, December 4.
The afternoon service, open only to students, faculty, and parents, will begin at 1:45 p.m. in the university chapel. This service will feature the Middle and High School combined orchestra, Junior School, Middle School, and High School choirs, and the Vocal Ensemble.
The Christmas Carols Concert, held from 7 p.m., the same day, is open to the public. In this concert the Middle and High School choirs, the Orchestra, Vocal Options class, and the Vocal Ensemble will perform their full Christmas repertoire. “I’m most looking forward to the mass chorus, as everyone comes together as one to celebrate the festive season,” said Anjana (12).
Throughout the evening, the audience will have several opportunities to join the choirs. The combined carols will include “The First Noel”, “Joy to the World”, “In the Bleak Midwinter”, “Silent Night”, and “We Wish You A Merry Christmas”.
The night will end with the performance of the song, “Peace Peace”, when the singers will surround the audience, holding candles, symbolizing hope and happiness for all.
“I love how there is so much in one program. There are the traditional carols that we all sing together, a variety of gorgeous music from the orchestra that rings throughout the chapel, the Christmas story in readings, and expressive performances from the choirs. When it all comes together, it’s quite beautiful. My heart is always so full after the Christmas Carols Concert,” said Mrs. Ofstedal, the Middle and High School Choral Director.
